La Nieta from the DOCa Rioja is a fascinating and promising red wine produced under the direction of Benjamín Romeo at the renowned Bodegas Contador . This vintage is particularly exciting as it continues the winery's tradition while showcasing the exceptional freshness and elegance of the 2023 vintage.
Grape varieties : Mainly Tempranillo , supplemented by smaller proportions of Graciano and Garnacha .
Origin : The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa , regions known for their high quality standards and ideal climate for growing Tempranillo. The terroir of calcareous soils ensures excellent water and nutrient absorption, lending the wine complexity.
Vinification : After hand-harvesting, the grapes are fermented in small, open stainless steel tanks to preserve their freshness and fruity profile. The wine then matures for 18 months in new French oak barrels , which imparts additional depth, structure, and a subtle oak note.
