Telmo Rodriguez, a native of the Basque Country, is often described as a 'driving winemaker'. After studying oenology in Bordeaux and working at various wineries, including Clos d'Estournel and his family's Rioja estate, Remelluri, he and his fellow student Pablo Eguzkiza set out to shake up the Spanish wine world. Founded in 1994, Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez currently produces around one million bottles annually. Today, the company employs a team of 12 oenologists working in diverse regions of Spain. Telmo Rodriguez strives to highlight the regionally typical grape varieties and the characteristics of each wine, and is certainly one of the first winemakers in Spain to engage intensively with the concept of 'terroir'. For Telmo Rodriguez, the 'Lanzaga' embodies the winery's identity; it is the purest and most direct expression of his work in Lanciego. A wine with a distinct sense of place, whose profound, true beauty is immediately apparent. Moreover, it boasts remarkable aging potential!
Sensors
A deep ruby red color impresses in the glass. Ripe and intense forest fruits such as blackberry, raspberry, currant, even some cassis, cherries, tobacco and wood with a hint of rosemary and thyme. Very full-bodied and opulent, above all profound and complex, powerfully fruity on the palate, yet with silky and elegant tannins.
Serving suggestion
The Telmo Rodríguez Lanzaga BIO pairs wonderfully with braised meats, stews, grilled red meat, or a Mediterranean antipasti platter. This red wine should be served at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Grape varieties
The Tempranillo grape variety is used to produce Telmo Rodríguez Lanzaga BIO.
Origin
Spain, Rioja. Rioja in northern Spain is the top wine-growing region of the Iberian Peninsula, one of the most famous and important wine-producing areas in the world, and its red wines, especially Tempranillo, are among the best wines worldwide. The Rioja vineyards cover over 60,000 hectares along the upper reaches of the Ebro River. The region is divided into the Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja, and Rioja Alavesa sub-regions. Red grape varieties are predominantly cultivated on the calcareous and clay soils. Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano are at the heart of Rioja's winemaking tradition.
