“ Nipozzano Riserva 2021 Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG The Nipozzano Riserva, an emblematic wine of Castello Nipozzano, a historic Frescobaldi estate a few kilometers northeast of Florence, is a symbol of the Tuscan winemaking tradition and the indissoluble connection with the terroir.
Climate change
The year 2020 ended with an autumn in which the rainfall replenished the groundwater. In contrast, the winter of 2021 was characterized by moderate rainfall and mild temperatures. Spring began with a cool and dry period, followed by a month of abundant rainfall in May, which replenished the land's water reserves. The sparse summer rains ensured a balanced water load for the vines, resulting in grapes with a richness of color and aroma. Favorable rainfall, followed by strong breezes in the hills, allowed the grapes to complete their ripening cycle with exceptional elegance and perfect health. The 2021 vintage was a rich year in which the spirit of the place was expressed with great dynamism and power, giving rise to wines that fully reflect the unique character of Nipozzano.

Vinification and aging
The harvested grapes were immediately transported to the winery. There, after destemming, spontaneous fermentation took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then remained in the tanks for complete maceration. After racking, malolactic fermentation was carried out, also in stainless steel tanks. At the end of the year, the wine was transferred to barriques, where it matured for the following months. Further aging in the bottle allowed the 2021 Nipozzano to fully develop, resulting in a wine of exceptional expressiveness and balance. Technical Notes: The 2021 Nipozzano has a clear ruby-red color. The bouquet is both fruity and floral, with hints of blackcurrants, blueberries, and raspberries, followed by floral notes reminiscent of violets and dog roses. These are followed by spicy notes reminiscent of black pepper, cloves, and star anise. Also of interest are the delicate tertiary notes and the freshness emanating from the balsamic and citrus aromas. On the palate, a pleasant acidity and alcoholic component emerge, and the tannin-rich texture is well-defined, dense, and silky. The harmony between taste and aroma is remarkable. The finish is pleasantly lingering and well-balanced in its various components.
