Bodegas Piqueras, which has been family-owned since 1915, is located in southeastern Spain, approximately 60 km from Alicante and the Mediterranean Sea. The vineyards are situated in a region characterized by low soil fertility and low rainfall. Combined with the continental climate, this region offers ideal conditions for the production of intensely aromatic wines.

Description

Sensory Profile

The El Abuelo Reserva presents a deep crimson color in the glass. Aromas of dark forest fruits unfold on the nose, accompanied by Mediterranean herbs and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, this wine impresses with its perfect balance between ripe red fruit and subtle leathery and smoky oak notes. Velvety tannins and well-integrated acidity make it a powerful yet elegant wine with a long-lasting and pleasant finish.

Serving Suggestion

The El Abuelo Reserva pairs perfectly with grilled or roasted meat dishes, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, pizza with salami or chorizo, as well as smoked cheese. The optimal serving temperature is between 16°C and 18°C.

Grape Varieties

This wine consists of a blend of Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, and Tempranillo. The grapes are sourced from vines grown on the best plots of Bodegas Piqueras, ranging between 45 and 65 years of age.

Origin

The El Abuelo Reserva comes from the D.O. Almansa in Spain. This wine region is located on the central Spanish plateau at an altitude of approximately 700 meters above sea level. The climate is continental, with very hot summers, significant temperature fluctuations, and minimal rainfall. The soils are lean and rich in limestone, which gives the wines their characteristic minerality and intensity. After the harvest, this wine matures for 12 months in 300-liter barrels made of fine-grained, medium-toasted American oak, which adds further complexity and structure.
