Guado al Tasso Bolgheri 2018

Marchesi di Antinori SKU: 0009676

Guado al Tasso Bolgheri

The 2018 vintage was characterized by a generally cold
phase in April and May and generally warm and
dry weather until July. The initial slight delay
in the growth cycle was made up for starting in the summer.
The sudden rise in temperature led to loose-knit and
light bunches, especially in late-ripening varieties where fruit set
was not yet complete. Stable sunny weather in the months
of August and September allowed the berries to complete
ripening under optimal conditions, so that an extraordinary level of quality could be achieved
for all varieties. The harvest began on September 16th with
Merlot, slightly later than usual, followed by
Cabernet Franc at the end of September, and the harvest concluded on October 5th with the last plot of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vinification
Upon arrival at the winery, the berries were selected twice: before destemming and subsequently, to
ensure that only perfectly ripe berries reach the fermentation tanks. As with every harvest, the individual
plots of the vineyard were divided into many small harvest sections according to the climatic progression of the year,
distinguished by the characteristics of the berries, which were vinified separately. Fermentation and maceration
took place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperature conditions for 15 to 20 days. After the
racking operations, the wines were transferred directly to barriques, where they completed malolactic fermentation by the end of the year.
In February, the best lots were selected and blended. Afterwards,
Guado al Tasso was transferred again into new French oak barriques, in which it refined until
bottling in June 2020.

History
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and sometimes a small proportion of Petit Verdot represent the elegance,
complexity and structure of the Bolgheri terroir. Produced since 1990 from vineyards whose soils
were originally alluvial and have clay-sand to clay-silt soils with Bolgheri conglomerate (skeleton).

Tasting notes
Guado al Tasso 2019 presents itself in an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it is rich and attractive with notes of
tobacco, licorice, plum and balsamic notes, accompanied by a light, elegant aroma of roasted coffee.
On the palate, the wine is vertical, persistent and tasty. Excellent quality of the tannins and very
pleasant on the palate in the central phase and the finish. A vintage with great aging potential.
